PHILOSOPHY
Knowledge with wisdom is the motto of the university. CEPT University through its programmes strives to make students aware of the multidimensional issues of contemporary society and to meet the challenges arising in resolving these issues with a gain of knowledge and wisdom. The students need to be equipped to understand the complex societal forces that would increasingly bear on them when they begin their professional life and to cope with them successfully. It also aspires not only to train a competent technocrat but also to increase the student's sensitivity to the emotional, spiritual, cultural and aesthetic dimensions.
Innovative changes in the curriculum and teaching methods are undertaken from time to time to keep pace with the advances in the relevant areas. Considering the professional nature of the disciplines dealing with human habitation and the built form, a number of experts from the industry / profession regularly teach at CEPT University as visiting faculty.
A substantial part of the student’s time at CEPT is devoted to the elective program through which they can choose courses offered by the various schools, to enable them to broaden their background and to pursue areas of specific interests, in addition to their main discipline. For the undergraduate programmes, sandwiched practical training and research thesis are required.
FUTURE PERSPECTIVE
Review of the curriculum, inclusive of its relevance, is a dynamic process at CEPT. The incorporation of multiple dimensions of the contemporary society into an integrated whole, that is qualitative and poetic, would continue to be our prime goal. The challenge of the present times would call for the development of communication skills. This would require a greater control over language, better organization of thoughts and ideas for presentation, and the understanding of the media through which communication is made. The developments in Information Technology will significantly influence the teaching methodologies and the teacher-student relationship will undergo transformation. The traditional classroom will acquire a new form. The students will have to do considerable work on their own in the learning process and more particularly in the acquisition of information. Increased use of library and internet will become part of a normal teaching process. In the times to come, there will be new opportunities and new challenges. Adaptability will be the new mantra. With basic professional background, the students will have to seek out new opportunities and learn new skills, if necessary. The straight jacket of specialization will have to be augmented with a whole array of new skills requiring an open mind and a flexible approach. The structure of work and social organization will change dramatically. On the other hand, the mission of the Institution will have to go much beyond mere training of a technocrat. It will mean development of the personality of the student with emotional balance and spiritual attitudes or values. This will be an important dimension of higher educational system and the most difficult to weave in an academic pedagogy. Equally, there will be a need shift from purely academic to societal concerns as an integral part of the academics. We will offer additional postgraduate programs in Urban Infrastructure, Urban Finance and Management, Architecture and Design. We may also offer postgraduate programs in Infrastructure Technology and Design.
